July Buys Saturday, Jul 10 2010

So, at the start of this month I thought “Hmm, time to save my pennies!”. I started off strong, until I remembered I live in New Zealand and pennies have nothing to do with our currency. So I shelved that idea and added to my wardrobe! πŸ˜‰ Or should I say, added a boatload of skinny style jeans with a few other pieces thrown in!

Here are a few of my purchases thus far…

EziBuy Urban Denim Military Vest NZD$49.95

This cute little vest from EziBuy embodies the current soldier-style fashion statement that seems so popular right now, without being too much. Most people either love vests, or hate them, but I think it’s a quirky addition to my collection.

EziBuy Emerge Casette Print Tee Shirt NZD$39.95

Another EziBuy find, this tee is casual, funky and warm. Perfect over jeans and a great length to boot.

EziBuy Urban Stud Detail Skinny Jean NZD$59.95

Aaannnddd… EziBuy brings it home for the team AGAIN! These black skinny jeans are embellished with darkened punk-type studs, and look wicked with a black leather jacket. Just sayin’.

EziBuy Heine Designer Jeans NZD$139.95

Last but certainly not least from my EziBuy shopping spree are these wonderful dark blue skinny jeans. They fit beautifully and have a funky angel wing design on the back, giving it that extra something special.

Pulp Strap-T Boot from Hannahs NZD$149.95

These cute boots are both comfortable and fun! I am a massive fan of studs (can you tell?) and this particular style fits my personality perfectly. They look superb with skinny jeans and being flat, it means I can wear them out and about without worrying about sore feet. You can get Pulp shoes and boots from Hannahs.

Stainless Steel Sun with Gold Plating from The Warehouse NZD$49.99

Yup, who’d have thunk it, but I found a nice pendant at The Warehouse! I just saw it and fell in love, and it is now my every-day piece. A step up from costume jewellery, but still not costing megabucks like some of the designer ranges out there. A happy medium.

Valley Girl Military Cardy NZD$19.99

Cheap and cheerful. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s one of those “looks good on, looks crap off” items that you sometimes stumble across. Great to chuck over a long singlet or tight tee. Found in Valley Girl, of all places.

Glassons Daisy Abraised Indigo Skinny Jeans NZD$59.99

Hmm, so I might have gone a little bit skinny-jean-crazy, but how cute are these! Distressed patches on the front thigh and lower backside add to what would normally be a simple pair of blue jeans. Find them at Glassons.

Max Studded Skinny Jeans NZD$99.00

Skinny jeans? Check. Studs? Check. My final skinny jean purchase of the month are these beauties from Max. They fit like a dream, go well with boots and leather jackets, as well as being dressed up with corporate attire.

So, we aren’t even half way through the month and I am already eying up my bank balance with horror. But… totally worth it! Plus, most of these items I caught on sale which is always a bonus!

Happy shopping sweethearts!

Baby Phat Handbags Saturday, May 29 2010

Now, anyone who knows me knows that I’m a GUESS girl through and through. When it comes to handbags, not much can distract me from the G label. Buuttt… I will admit to deviating from my obsession a few times. For a good quality, stylish but sexy handbag for everyday wear, I am GUESS all the way. But, when I want to funk it up a bit, make my outfits a little bit more playful… I turn to the Baby Phat range of handbags by mogul Kimora Lee Simmons.

The Baby Phat label is not only famous for its handbags, but also for shoes, clothing and accessories. That’s all good and well, but I am most taken with the outrageously over the top bags, not the other stuff!

The handbags are fun and quirky, certainly not demure in any way, shape or form. They range from approximately NZD$100 to around about NZD$500 – but in most cases, you are looking at the former rather than the latter. The bags are more often than not covered in bling, with shiny buckles, accessories and edgy designs. They look great with a simple jeans/boots/t-shirt combo, or to zest up a little black dress. These aren’t the bags for you if you wear a lot of colour or stand-out cuts, as it would just be waaaay too much. For those of you who spend most of your days in fairly simple attire? Baby Phat = WIN!

Have a look at some of the great designs to choose from!

Another Day, Another Jacket… Saturday, Apr 10 2010

Okay, so I might be turning into a jacket junkie. I bought another leather jacket today, but… IT’S JUST SO DAMN HOT! A gorgeous black leather jacket with a studded lapel design, cropped short. Kind of rock, kind of punk. Looks fantastic on, too.

And who would have thought I’d find it at Farmers?

The Easter Bunny Told Me To Monday, Apr 5 2010

Easter weekend is, unfortunately, over. I got no chocolate, but I figured that meant the Easter Bunny wanted me to go shopping instead. *Cough*

I got a few gorgeous things from Glassons which have me grinning from ear to ear! Check out my new jacket! The picture shows that of a black jacket, but I got mine in gray as I already have a few black jackets hanging in my closet already. It’s short, finishes around my ribs, but I have a small waist so it suits my body shape to a T!

Glassons ZINA CROP BIKER JACKET NZD$79.99

I also bought two belts from Glassons, to go with the jacket. I purchased the same belt twice – as it came in both black and silvery-gray. It’s a long, thin, studded belt that loops loosely around the hips twice. Gorgeous.

Glassons DOUBLE WRAP SKINNY STUD BELT (Black) NZD$16.99

Glassons DOUBLE WRAP SKINNY STUD BELT (Silvery-Gray) NZD$16.99

And it’s all good to have a great outfit, but you also need great makeup to pull the whole shebang off!

I bought Kleancolor products for the first time a few days ago, and quite liked them, so I snapped up yet another inexpensive makeup treat. Check out my new liquid eyeliner!

Kleancolor Eyeliner Precision (403) (Liquid) Black NZD$6.00

A few days ago I bought the Kleancolor black matt polish, and today I followed up with buying a hot pink, orange and white polish to add to my colection. Hot!

Kleancolour Nail Lacquer NZD$6.00

Another thing I found is just bloody handy. The Kleancolor Wizard Pads are small, round pads that you can keep in your handbag that completely wipe away nail polish from your nails. No fuss, no mess. Easy.

Kleancolor Wizard Pads (Lemon or Cucumber scented) NZD$3.00

Happy Easter everybody! I hope you had as good a holiday as meeeeeeeee! πŸ˜€

Fashion Update – Preparing For Winter With My Wallet In Mind Monday, Mar 29 2010

So, it’s Autumn. Summer is but a distant memory now, and even though I’m still managing to wear t-shirts on warmer days, I have to admit to keeping a jacket close by most of the time.

With colder months comes the need to fill my wardrobe again with cute but temperature appropriate clothing. To be honest, buying for Winter is one of my most treasured moments of the year. Forget Christmas; Winter clothes shopping means I get to buy boots and jackets! (Just so you know, even the idea of this has me doing my happy dance!)

Despite my love of shopping, I am regrettably (until I win the Lottery! πŸ˜‰ ) on a budget. It would be fantastic to go out and blow a couple of thousands of dollars on one item, but-I’m-just-not-rich. So, like any smart girl, I try and find the items I want, In styles I love, at unbeatable prices. Here are a few pieces I have purchased for the chillier season that haven’t left me broke and homeless:

Capture Zip Front Biker Jacket NZD$89.95

I bought this jacket online from EziBuy, except I got it in white. It’s a slim-fitting, soft faux leather jacket that fits beautifully and is surprisingly warm. Great with jeans, or even great to wear to work. So versatile, and so sexy. I might even buy a second one in black, I love it so much!

Garage Stud Belt Shirt NZD$34.99

It seems the whole checkered/tartan look is back in – and you know what? I’m liking it. This long top is from The Warehouse and with it’s studded belt, comes across a little but more tidy-punk than country girl. This looks great either worn with leggings or with jeans, and very easily can be dressed up.

AUGUST ROLL NECK JACKET NZD$79.99

Yup, another jacket. This is a goodie though! From good oldΒ Glassons, this jacket is a little bit biker, with a roll neck that is both warm and funky. I have lived in this jacket since I bought it, using it either in dressier situations or just to chuck over my casual t-shirt and jeans when I leave the house.

Striped Arm Warmers/Hobo Gloves NZD$6.00

I bought these brand-new off of a store on TradeMe. I got a pair in Cyan/Black, White/Black and Red/Black, and they are totally awesome! Okay okay, a little bit emo with the skulls, but they are warm, I can still use my fingers and I think they totally spice up an outfit! Plus, I think adding a bit of attitude is sexy. πŸ˜‰

Bagamoyo Boot - Black NZD$49.99

These boots I have blogged about before. Sturdy, warm, funky and look great with jeans. Great for those cold, wet winter days! And being so cheap, well how could I say no? I bought these from Number One Shoe Warehouse – have a look at their site here.

So, that’s a few of my recent purchases for winter. Non-expensive, fulfilling my needs without losing my style. I think I did pretty damn well! πŸ™‚ I will keep posting cheap fashion finds as I go.

Topshop comes to New Zealand! Friday, Mar 26 2010

For as long as I have been shopping online, I have lovingly poured over the purchase options at Topshops website and wished that I could try on the copious amounts of amazing clothes and shoes, jewellery and accessories that they have to offer. With the cost of shipping being so steep, I haven’t purchased anything from the site as I just can’t justify paying NZD$30.00 for courier fees.

Topshop is a British department chain that houses some of the worlds best designers, at fairly good prices. Some of the designer ranges that will be coming to good ol’ NZ is the Karen Walker range (well, they just had to!) and Kate Moss’s amazing line, amongst other things.

The store will be opening in Takapuna, on Aucklands North Shore mid-April 2010, and the stores stock will be fully complete in about September 2010.

I am so excited it’s not funny! And every girl I know is on the same “OMG OMG YAY!” bandwagon as me! Brilliant! So next month, I plan to be broke, after visiting Topshop Takapuna and spending all of my hard earned cash! Whoop! πŸ˜€

Number 1 Shoes Saturday, Mar 20 2010

Sometimes you just can’t afford to spend big bucks on all of your fashion items – especially when it comes to shoes. Having a few key pieces that are designer and gorgeously and un-justifiably expensive is one of life’s great pleasures, but lets face it – it’s also nice to have an abundance of shoes to choose from! Perhaps for a specific outfit, or maybe because you know if you wear your pricey pairs every day they will get scuffed and old looking pretty quickly. So unless you are a millionaire who can afford to live in Jimmy Choo’s every day, you need a cheaper, everyday option.

Number One Shoe Warehouse is a retail chain that sells shoes, shoes and more shoes. They have a massive stock of everything for men, women and children which is absolutely fantastic when they have one of their “Buy two and get the third pair free!” sales – families come in droves.

The shoes themselves range from NZD$5.00 to more designer items that can go up to NZD$150, but most fall around the NZD$30 range – you really can’t beat their prices. And the quality is pretty damn good too! I have a lot of shoes from them that were bought over the years and have held together beautifully. Sure, I have had a few that have only lasted a season but for that price, who cares?

They are located all over New Zealand, their stores set up in aisles of shoe types. Men’s shoes are on one side, kids on another, and (most important) a nice BIG section for the ladies. Each aisle has a theme – sport shoes, sandals, fashion heels, boots and end of lines. This makes it easy to browse for what you want, and the prices are clearly marked. They almost always have all of the sizes for each shoe in store, and if not they are more than happy to track a pair down for you.

Recently I noticed they had started selling their shoes on TradeMe, and for a voracious online shopper like myself, this has been an exciting find. (Click here to see their listings on TradeMe) This process has been a breeze, they have been helpful and efficient and saved me a lot of hassle. They also have their own website now, where you can browse through a nice selection of their shoes, buy online or see their recent catalogues. Obviously, they can’t put every single pair of shoes on their website (they have a massive range, as I said!) which means a trip into one of their stores is a must, but I have been pretty damn happy with the selection on their site thus far.

So, winter will soon be upon us and their new range of boots has just come out – have a look! I just bought myself a few pairs! πŸ˜€

Mens: Cerbe Dress - Black NZD$40.00

Girls: Lobelia - Black Fuschia NZD$24.99

Boys: Ecoli Skate - White Black NZD$29.99

Now, thats just a small selection of the shoes that Number One has. They have, literally, thousands of styles. They have punk shoes, heels in various colours, boring old work shoes, soccer boots and even an assortment of slippers and cheapie Ugg-style boots. They aren’t Mi Piaci or Andrea Biani but they certainly do the job – and at a wicked price!

Pink Just Sounds Better Thursday, Mar 4 2010

Everything these days seems to be designed in such a way that people will buy it merely because it looks cool. Sure, quality comes into it (big time), but if you can buy a product that is both functional AND funky, then it’s all the more exciting. Days are long gone when you would just buy something stock standard – now it’s all about the x-factor. Does it have a cool pattern? Is it hot pink? Is it fashionable? Does it go with your outfit/computer/car/personality? You just have to look at the recent popularity of pink everything to see what I mean. I have friends who have eagerly bought a toolset, merely because it was pink. Same with the gorgeous pink Apple iPods or pink stationery.

So, in following this recent trend, I have succumbed happily to buying my every day items in exciting shades and designs, and of modern construction. I have pink pens, pink socks, sparkly hairbrushes, a bizarrely shaped but very funky toothbrush, all the way to my most recent of purchases: a pair of hot pink JVC headphones (HA-S150 On-Ear Stereo Headphones to be exact!)

Why did I buy them? You’re thinking, well, I probably needed a new pair and so bought pink just because. Not exactly. This is the power of target marketing. I have three pairs of headphones, two of them being of the Apple persuasion, and one cheaper pair from some unknown brand called Sony or something ( πŸ˜‰ hehe ) So no, I certainly didn’t need another pair. I just saw these pink beauties and HAD TO HAVE. Now, as a girl, I wouldn’t normally spend my hard earned cash on anything functional and tech-like unless I really had to. I would save my pennies for clothing, accessories, makeup. But because JVC was smart enough to make a pair of headphones in this wonderful colour (or color for our American readers!) I was hooked in to buying them.

I took them to work today, and made sure I wore my matching pink scarf and ring (Hot!). The lesson here? If you make something practical and generally boring into something exciting and fashionable, you WILL sell your product. It’s just all about changing the image of the product to entice the consumer. Make it more desirable, make it fun, make it fashionable. It’s a win win situation.

My Hot Pink JVC HA-S150 On-Ear Stereo Headphones

Cinched Tuesday, Feb 23 2010

When I’m trying to throw together an outfit, and can’t really deicide on anything, I find the easiest thing to do is to wear something simple and add a really funky belt. Sounds silly, but a plain black cotton dress can look absolutely phenomenal with the right belt and pair of heels. Leather (heck, pleather even), twine, metal, plastic – there are so many belts out there in so many designs and made out of more kinds of materials than you could possibly imagine. Have fun, go out and buy a few belts and regress back into being a kid! Find your inner child and play dress up!

Now, you don’t NEED to spend big on an outfit for it to look original these days, and a belt can be both the main focal point and also a great way to show off your curves if you use it to cinch in your waist. A belt can both dress up a plain ensemble, and dress down something that looks too busy on its own. (It’s like magic!)

A belt can also change your look completely. Punk, goth, glitzy – you name it. Check out some great online site’s that sell a fantastic assortment of rockin’ belts! And okay, I’m only talking about belts for women here, but a nice belt on a man with the right pair of jeans can be seexxxyyy, so men, keep that in mind. πŸ˜‰

There’s the American site 599Fashion where everything is USD$5.99 – the belts are super cute!

Shop online at New Zealand’s The Max Shop;Β the belts here aren’t cheap, but they certainly are classy.

For Punk/Rock type belts, visit Boots’N’All and have a browse – an NZ site.

When all else fails, NZ girls like me head to Glassons… even for belts!

A fantastic fashion site, Red Rat offers quite a range of must-have belts! They don’t deliver outside of New Zealand though.

Find some great bargains at Retail On Sale – a New Zealand site with some pretty funky items.

For those of you in either New Zealand or Australia, check out Supre online. For a younger audience, sure, but some great finds…

For well priced, true Punk and Goth styled belts, visit New Zealand’s Gnarley – they sell through TradeMe, which reminds me – another great place to buy belts! (And the kitchen sink!)

And of course, eBay is a winner when it comes to buying absolutely EVERYTHING these days.

I could go on forever, but I’ll stop here. I’ve given you somewhere to start – go ladies, go!

Now, every girl loves bracelets. You can accentuate an outfit, bling yourself up or just make yourself feel pretty with that little bit extra on your wrist.Β

I am a big fan of bracelets and armbands, both of designer origin and the cheaper, costume jewellery type. I own everything from a Pandora bracelet to items from Equip and Bling. But my fave type of wrist-accessory are the varying range of leather wrist cuffs.

You can wear jeans and a simple t-shirt, add a leather cuff, and your outfit goes from simple and casual to having a bit of edge. There is a huge range of designs out there, from hardcore metal spikes and studs, to daintier types. Some are quite punk, some are butch, and some extremely feminine. Honestly, next time you’re out shopping, take a look around. Stores like Amazon, Glassons, Equip, Portmans and any surf-skate shop stock them – and usually for less than NZD$30.00.

Ohhh, I really love the leather cuffs with buckles… so hot! πŸ™‚
