Za Za Za – you’ve done it again Sunday, Aug 1 2010

I have been a Za fan for a while now, since discovering their White Emulsion Range of skin care. But I had never tried any of their concealers – until now.

So, I was strolling through Farmers (as you do) with a friend recently, when I spotted the Za stand. As any decent representation of the female species would, I went to check if there was a) anything new or b) anything on sale. There was a 15% sale, so I just HAD to buy something.

That’s when I tried the Za Concealer Perfection and you know what? Wow. Covered better than I could ever have expected. Went on easily, blended perfectly and left my skin looking like I wasn’t wearing any makeup at all. Now I use it every day as part of my routine, and I have never been more pleased with a concealer. Available in three shades, packaged in a small 9g tube that is easily added to the handbag essentials, this concealer is a brilliant everyday product.

It’s available at selected pharmacies and online, along with Farmers Department stores nationwide (go the beauty card!)

Go. Buy. Enjoy.

Another Day, Another Jacket… Saturday, Apr 10 2010

Okay, so I might be turning into a jacket junkie. I bought another leather jacket today, but… IT’S JUST SO DAMN HOT! A gorgeous black leather jacket with a studded lapel design, cropped short. Kind of rock, kind of punk. Looks fantastic on, too.

And who would have thought I’d find it at Farmers?

Farmers: Switch Biker Bomber Jacket NZD$139.99

Beauty Review Saturday, Apr 3 2010

Every girl loves looking great, especially when it comes to her makeup. We want to cover up our imperfections, make our pretty eyes stand out and our lips look kissable, all the while trying desperately to keep it all as natural seeming as possible. (Boys, FYI – harder than it looks!) I try to stick to a budget and so have opted to not always buy MAC/Dior etc makeup unless I can really afford to. Which means finding cheaper options that still work, and work WELL.

I have found a couple of new products recently that have really impressed me, so I thought I’d share.

RADIESSENCE Foundation

I bought RADIESSENCE on a whim really, because I had seen the Ads on TV and had heard people talking about it over the past few months. I needed a new foundation so thought I’d try it out. And I’ll tell you what – I am extremely happy I did! I have only used it a few times so far, but each time everyone comments on how “fresh-faced” I look, and one friend also stated she didn’t even click that I was wearing foundation! WIN WIN WIN! The foundation itself is a creamy blend with an SPF30 sunscreen mixed in, and is so good I didn’t need to use a concealer AT ALL – it covered up everything! Under-eye circles, blemishes, redskin. I also found that, as long as my skin is fresh and clean, there is absolutely no caking or build up.  There are four shades to choose from and it comes with a brush and an applicator sponge, which is really handy. For NZD$49.90 this is an extremely well-priced product that covers just as well as those big-name brands do. (If not better than some!)

Revlon: Just Bitten

This little lip enhancer is a roll-on, long lasting lip stain. You roll it on in the morning, let it set over a few minutes, then apply your normal balm/gloss. All day the colour will stay, because your lips are (duh) stained. All you have to do it keep applying your gloss, if you choose to. It’s easy, it’s sexy, and the name reminds me of Twilight, so I love it all the more! 😉  Why is this better than a long-lasting lipstick, you ask? Well, lipstick is thick, and if you have even the smallest amount of dry skin the lipstick cakes on and enhances it. Lip stain doesn’t do this in the slightest. This is a limited edition release for Revlon, so they no longer sell it on their site, BUT a lot of chemists, online shops etc still stock it. For  NZD$16.99 (sometimes cheaper, sometimes more expensive) it’s not a bad buy really. It lasts forever, and you only need to apply a little bit each morning as it lasts most, if not all of the day.

Vaseline Lip Therapy

We all know about Vaseline, but let me tell you, it is SO handy to have in your handbag. As a gloss over your matt lipstick or lip stain, it works beautifully. The particular type that I use (green tin, see above) has Aloe added, which means it helps also to keep my lips feeling soft and supple. Other tricks for this cheap (NZD$4.00) little beauty is that it is great for tidying eyebrows and emergency patch ups for when you’re out, go to the bathroom and look into the mirror, only to find dry skin! Plus, it can easily be stuffed into a small handbag or even your pocket. Genius! Have a look at the product itself here.

Chi Chi Eye Palette's

I really like Chi Chi cosmetics. Farmers Department store introduced me to the range, and I have never been disappointed. The product I am using obsessively at the moment is one of their Eye Pallette sets (mine has blue, pink, dusky rose, red-orange, gold and black). For NZD$16.99 this is a cheap eyeshadow that not only goes on well and stays on for the entire day without fading or smudging, but its sturdy little snap case never ever opens in your handbag and spills everywhere like most other cosmetics do. I mostly use the gold and the black, which are rich and sexy – LOVE! Check out the Chi Chi website for the full range.

L'OREAL Glam Shine Lip Gloss

You can’t beat a good lipgloss. L’Oreal’s Glam Shine range isn’t cheap, but also isn’t going to break the bank at NZD$21.00 (the price can vary depending on the store though, of course). There is a good range (I have most of them!) and it goes on smoothly, with minimal smudging and absolutely no stickiness. It does come off on your coffee cup/boyfriends collar, but oh well. That’s the price of beauty! You can find this product in most Supermarkets, Chemists and online beauty sites.

Kleancolor Nail Polish (Black #5)

In a perfect world, I would have enough money to only buy O.P.I. nail polishes. They are great BUT… a bit too expensive unfortunately. My next best thing? Well, I found it today, put it on, and am totally chuffed! Kleancolor’s nail polishes go on so smoothly, with no flaking, lumps or blobbing. I am really impressed. The RRP is about NZD$9.99, but I got it on sale today for NZD$6.00 at a Postie+ store. It does need a sealer coat on top to stop it from peeling, but for a change-a-day type polish it’s good.

So, that’s it for now kids. Hopefully I have helped you in some way to improve your makeup range while saving you some money as well! Until next time…

Fashion Update – Preparing For Winter With My Wallet In Mind Monday, Mar 29 2010

So, it’s Autumn. Summer is but a distant memory now, and even though I’m still managing to wear t-shirts on warmer days, I have to admit to keeping a jacket close by most of the time.

With colder months comes the need to fill my wardrobe again with cute but temperature appropriate clothing. To be honest, buying for Winter is one of my most treasured moments of the year. Forget Christmas; Winter clothes shopping means I get to buy boots and jackets! (Just so you know, even the idea of this has me doing my happy dance!)

Despite my love of shopping, I am regrettably (until I win the Lottery! 😉 ) on a budget. It would be fantastic to go out and blow a couple of thousands of dollars on one item, but-I’m-just-not-rich. So, like any smart girl, I try and find the items I want, In styles I love, at unbeatable prices. Here are a few pieces I have purchased for the chillier season that haven’t left me broke and homeless:

Capture Zip Front Biker Jacket NZD$89.95

I bought this jacket online from EziBuy, except I got it in white. It’s a slim-fitting, soft faux leather jacket that fits beautifully and is surprisingly warm. Great with jeans, or even great to wear to work. So versatile, and so sexy. I might even buy a second one in black, I love it so much!

Garage Stud Belt Shirt NZD$34.99

It seems the whole checkered/tartan look is back in – and you know what? I’m liking it. This long top is from The Warehouse and with it’s studded belt, comes across a little but more tidy-punk than country girl. This looks great either worn with leggings or with jeans, and very easily can be dressed up.

AUGUST ROLL NECK JACKET NZD$79.99

Yup, another jacket. This is a goodie though! From good old Glassons, this jacket is a little bit biker, with a roll neck that is both warm and funky. I have lived in this jacket since I bought it, using it either in dressier situations or just to chuck over my casual t-shirt and jeans when I leave the house.

Striped Arm Warmers/Hobo Gloves NZD$6.00

I bought these brand-new off of a store on TradeMe. I got a pair in Cyan/Black, White/Black and Red/Black, and they are totally awesome! Okay okay, a little bit emo with the skulls, but they are warm, I can still use my fingers and I think they totally spice up an outfit! Plus, I think adding a bit of attitude is sexy. 😉

Bagamoyo Boot - Black NZD$49.99

These boots I have blogged about before. Sturdy, warm, funky and look great with jeans. Great for those cold, wet winter days! And being so cheap, well how could I say no? I bought these from Number One Shoe Warehouse – have a look at their site here.

So, that’s a few of my recent purchases for winter. Non-expensive, fulfilling my needs without losing my style. I think I did pretty damn well! 🙂 I will keep posting cheap fashion finds as I go.

Za Za Zoom! Tuesday, Dec 8 2009

My latest foray into facial/body and makeup products has been with the line from Za New York. And I’ll tell you what – I love the stuff!

They have a whole heap of different things, but I’m mainly going to talk about their True White Emulsion Clarifying Agent. The bottle claims “Smooth moisturizing (it’s from the US so will stick with their spelling!) emulsion helps diminish spots and acne scars”. Well, like most women, my skin tone isn’t perfectly even. So I thought, hmm, worth a go. It’s also a moisturiser, prevents blemishes and smoothes skin while retaining its natural moisture balance. Now I’ve got you all excited, you’re thinking – “Does it work?!”

Well, so far yes! It feels like heavy silk when it goes on, and it absorbs beautifully. I put it on when I go to bed and have found that, in the morning, I don’t HAVE to slather myself in face creme due to my skin drying out overnight! This was a bit of a miracle to me, as dry skin just is my pet hate. It looks awful and I’m anal about making sure my face is void of it at all times.

Now, my skin tone is also looking better. More even, less dull and – amazingly – just plain healthier. The Za tinted moisturiser I am using is also great – has good coverage, looks natural and doesn’t dry out. Now, how often can you say that? (Unless you use Lancolme, but I can’t afford their products!)

And the pièce de résistance is the pricing of the Za products. I bought the emulsion creme for less than NZD$25.00 and the tinted moisturiser was less than NZD$20.00 – zing! How good is that? Available at Farmers, too, which means the range is often on special, and if you have a Farmers beauty card you get points.

B-E-A-utiful!
